La marketta si è diffusa grazie a Repubblica.it L’articolo di Ivan Fulco ne tesse le lodi e credo sia abbastanza chiaro che il clamore suscitato ha innestato una viralità incredibile. La sola pagina di Repubblica.it ha prodotto (al momento in cui scrivo) 14.000 segnalazioni di rimbalzo du Facebook.
Ok, ora tutti corrono a scaricarlo e, al sottoscritto, arrivano anche SMS di amici con il forte invito a utilizzare questo servizio, in quanto rivoluzionario e gratuito.
Ok, l’ho scaricato ma prima di attivarlo ho provato a resistere alla forzatura delle notifiche. Ho riletto 10 volte il dislaimer sulla privacy, e li mi son bloccato!
Ovviamente, il bloggante curiosone indaga, e sbatte il muso su un paio di articoli di HWFiles e di Stefano Quintarelli. La faccenda inizia puzzare di bruciato.
cerco informazioni sull’azienda e sul modello di business. Sul sito non c’è nulla!
A questo punto la discussione si sposta su FF dove grazie alle informazioni di Armando, la mia curiosità muta in vera e propria diffidenza. Chiedo aiuto ai nerdz ma, facendo un po’ di surf, arrivo a un paio di articoli americani e, udite udite:
Viber è uno spinoff di NY, nata da una costola di iMesh: “Viber is based in New York, NY and was founded this year by the folks behind the file sharing service iMesh. We’re awaiting funding details from the company“. Della serie si sa poco o niente. Anche perchè in rete tutti continuano a dire che l’azienda è cipriota.
Viber usa i nostri numeri per SPYWARE APPS? La cosa che ancora mi stupisce dei guru della rete, ma che non mi stupisce più del mondo dell’informazione (oooops MARKETTA) alla Repubblica, è che per il GRATIS, la gente sarebbe pronta anche a suicidarsi.

Le mail possono essere molto di più… commenti, pensieri, numeri di telefono, indirizzi mail, cose fatte e non fatte… (altro che privacy). Nei social network ci sono i dettagli dei tuoi contatti… non perché ce li metti tu, ma ci sono.
Per il cloud parlavo delle applicazioni (non obbligatoriamente delle tue)… ogni applicazione cloud ' potenzialmente a rischio privacy… d'altronde questo è vero anche per il software che non controlli (anche in locale) perché hai solo il codice binario… ma questa è un'altra storia ;)

Ma resto della mia idea. Il telefono è l'unico oggetto che rimane in mano mia. Non è un applicazione hosted o cloud o che ne so io. E' mio e i contatti hanno dato fiducia a me. Ne parleremo a 4 occhi. Ho chiesto parere anche ai legulei :-)
Se la metti cosi' allora non dovresti usare gmail, un qualunque webmail, skype, msn, facebook, twitter o un qualunque social network e… tieniti forte… nessuna soluzione di Cloud Computing :)
Mmmmm, le mail non sono come i numeri di telefono. E nel cloud uso solo account "sociali" senza mai metterci dettagli sui miei contatti. Specialmente se son numeri di telefono aziendali.

La mia antica battaglia "contro" la privacy dichiara quanto segue: non ho niente in contrario al fatto che chiunque conosca miei dati, anche sensibili, sono contraria al loro misuso!
Io lo uso, ho un sacco di amici all'estero che chiamo anche con skype o google (video e chat)… che cosa possono farmi di così terribile?

I tried to understand some of the users' comments here (difficult in Italian… haha), and I want to try and answer them. if you can, please translate it into Italian and post a reply in this blog, because I want this message to get to all the worried Italian users. Thank you:
Some people read in our Privacy Policy that we might share the information we took from them with other companies if we merge. For now it is only a clause in our Privacy Policy – we will, of course, inform our users in such case. They forgot to mention clause 7 in our Privacy Policy, that clearly states that at any point you are entitled to delete your Viber account, and have your data COMPLETELY ERASED from our database. So – in a hypothetical case of merging with another company that worries you, you would be able to fully control your personal information, and prevent it from being transferred anywhere.
and also – it is important to understand that we collect people's information not because we are curious of its content, but in order for us to enable the service we, as a company, promise to provide. this is the world of technology – information is needed for services to work. we are putting all the efforts and money we can into DENYING ACCESS to users' information if it's not absolutely necessary for Viber to work.

Il tuo numero ce l'hanno comunque, perchè presente nella lista dei tuoi amici e parte della tua privacy te la sei già involontariamente messa in gioco. Il "non installo e sono salvo" vale fino ad un certo punto. Ovvio che se lo installi e attivi le conseguenze sono peggiori.
Eddy…..ci do un occhiata. Non credo che basti installare l'applicazione per regalargli la nostra lista contatti. Ma mi informo meglio. Visto che nel commento che segue, sono arrivati proprio quelli di Viber
Non intendevo dire ciò, forse mi sono siegato male, intendevo dire che se qualcuno ha il tuo numero telefonico all'interno della sua rubrica ed accetta le condizioni di viber, automaticamente viber conoscerà il tuo numero e il nome con la quale è stato salvato. Di questo ne sono certo.

Ti ringrazio per il commento ma su FB non sono del tutto d'accordo. E' vero che si trattiene tutto ma tu puoi raffinare i settaggi della privacy e non concedergli proprio tutto, tutto.
Per la considerazione generale, è purtroppo vero. La privacy viene immolata sull'altare delle funzionalità gratuite.
Per me è un Nì. Prova a sincronizzare i contatti con l'applicazione facebook e mi dici (non voglio incollare dei link ma sai a quale post mi riferisco: ci puoi arrivare da quello sopra)
